Hi,

I have a relatively new Dell running windows 8.1 and have just been away for a couple of weeks, now when I boot up the computer I get a message saying it couldn't connect to windows, and when I view the event log I get the massage above. Every time I open an office document (word or exel) the program crashes after about 5 minutes. I tried system restore and it also crashed (!)

Have run all antiviral and security software (my bro used my computer to print out some boarding passes whilst I was away and then left it running for the whole 2 weeks, not sure if this makes it more vulnerable. Anyway didn't identify anything)

I am pretty able at problem solving but fairly computer illiterate (as far as systems go) so have no idea what to do now

Any suggestions?

Hi Araceliuk,

Thank you for your question.

By the error, we could try to run a System File Checker (SFC) scan to check for any file corruption. SFC scan will scan for corrupt system files on the computer and repair them.

 1.      Press Windows key + X, click Command Prompt (Admin).
 2.      In the Command Prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow
Then run dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth in CMD.

In addition, we could refer to the following link to do a clean boot to check if the issue persist:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135

If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

Best Regard,

Jim
